Sakyadhita means “Daughters of the Buddha.” The Sakyadhita International Association of Buddhist Women was founded in 1987 in Bodhgaya, India, with the aim of fostering an environment where Buddhist women worldwide could learn and practice free from discrimination. As the Association continues to gain prominence, its goals and areas of focus have expanded significantly. To address issues of shared interest, Sakyadhita organizes an international conference every two years, hosted in a different country each time.
